cooking & baking

march already

Can you believe it’s March already, this year is moving along far too quickly, it is lovely though having longer evenings and of course we are now in ‘real’ spring!

Flowers are becoming more plentiful and it’s great to enjoy them both inside and out now.

February as always provided some opportunities for yummy things to eat…with Valentine’s Day and Shrove Tuesday.

During the past month I’ve been knitting some new things for my little princess and buying some lovely new yarn to make some more. 🙂

Of course there have been some new animals too!

This is Fifi and her little dog Pepe.

Fifi is a little French bunny and she loves nothing better than taking Pepe for a walk in a Parisian park and then stopping off in Laduree for some macarons.

A little grey mouse called Mustard!

It’s lovely at this time of year to have the pretty little primula to brighten up pots and window boxes and this little bear is a celebration of those colourful plants…….meet Primmie.

And the final one this time is a little mint green bunny who has of course been named Minty!

All four of these girls will be listed in my Etsy shop on Sunday 5th March at 7pm (GMT).

Please note they are collectibles only and are not suitable for children under 14 years.

Thank you so much for dropping by, wishing you all a very happy March………it’s Spring! 🙂

things to brighten

DSCN2811

Oh my goodness, today is one of those days that reminds me why I do not like this time of year, I really don’t think it got light at all today, roll on pre-spring!!!

I have received some happy mail recently and I thought I would share it today to try and brighten your day and mine!

First up some beautiful sunflower cards sent to me all the way from Australia from my lovely Facebook friend Terry of Terry Cards. So very thoughful and so very welcome. Terry does all her own photography, you can find her on Facebook here where she shares her lovely images. Thanks Terry, sunflowers are my favourite flowers and just the tonic for a grey day.

I have shared some of Beth’s from The Linen Cat’s gorgeous makes here before, I do love her creations. When she posted these lovely birds on her blog recently, I just had to have one. Beth’s packages are always lovely to receive. You can find her fabulous work here and here.

Now another lovely package which was a joy to receive was this one from Debbie of The Crimson Rabbit. I ordered the little blue rabbit star for my daughter and the red one for me, amazing, aren’t they!! You can also find Debbie on Etsy and Facebook. Do check out Debbie’s shop to see her beautiful creations!

This is little Monty Mouse the creation of Sue McLearie of Paws by Sue McLearie. I first spotted him on Sue’s Facebook page and knew I had to have him.

Monty has been printed on to a transparent sticker so that you can place him wherever you want.

And here he is happily living in the skirting board in my craft room! Cute or what!

So hopefully I have provided you with some new places to visit and maybe tempt you away from your pennies, it happens to me all the time.

So what have I spent this dismal day doing?

DSCN2822

Well I have baked some wheaten bread and cinnamon roll scones ( recipe can be found here).

And I have also been making my ‘Christmas Girls’, excuse the photo, blame the grimness!!!

Have a great week, fingers crossed for some more brightness!

Thanks as always for dropping in. 🙂

october days

DSCN2740

October has generally been quite a good month so far, yes we have had a few blustery wet days but there have been lots of lovely autumnal days and it has been very mild. On Saturday we were out and about without coats in a very pleasant 18 degrees!

I have managed lots of garden time, tidying up summer bedding and planting bulbs for next spring, one afternoon last week I planted 65 bulbs mostly tulips and some crocuses too, my shoulders and back weren’t that pleased with me the next day though!!!

I also have planted up my pots and window boxes with lovely little pansies and violas, heathers and cyclamen to see me through the dark days until springtime.

Inside I’ve been making sweets from the lovely book ‘Sweets Made Simple’ by the wonderful Hope & Greenwood, I’m sure many of you in the UK watched their fabulous TV series.

Last week I made some Cinder Toffee and the previous week I made Coconut Ice which unfortunately didn’t get photographed before it was all eaten. There is so much more in the book I want to try.

I’ve also been autumn bunny making, I’ve not quite finished them all yet but I hope to have an autumn bunny parade to share with you all some time next week.

I would like to thank all of you who left comments on my two French posts, I’m so glad you all enjoyed having a look around those two marvelous homes with me.

As a little thank you to all my very loyal blog friends I decided to have a secret giveaway.

I brought back some lovely Provençal lavender from the Marche de Fleurs in Nice along with some lavender soap with a giveaway in mind, I’ve also added a little spool of lavender spotty ribbon which although not from France looks lovely along with the other two items.

So if you left a comment on either French post you were entered into the draw and if you left a comment on both posts (thank you) you had two entries.

So with every entry being allocated a number and the random number generator used the winner of my secret giveaway was Simone!! I’ll get it posted off to you soon Simone.
