Home cooking & baking Grey November

What a grey month November has been so far, I have to say I really dislike the month of November for this very reason. It’s always grey, the weather is grim and the daylight is in short supply.

These photos were taken in my garden in the middle of the day. Grey!!!

I’ve been in search for something to brighten my day, even dying flowers provide a bit of colour on a miserable November day.

Baking a cake helped a bit too. Yogurt cake using a mandarin yogurt and covering the top with orange flavoured icing. You can find the recipe in this post.

The latest bunny I’m working on is helping to bring a little cheer too!

She’ll soon be ready, I’m just getting her little outfit finished.

I did find one bit of hope in my gloomy garden today, the tips of daffodils just breaking through the soil.

Difficult as it was I did manage to find a little brightness on a gloomy, grey November day.

I still wish it was spring though!!! (sigh)

I’ll leave you on a really positive note, it’s only 44 days until the Winter Solstice and then we can start to reclaim our daylight back!!! Happy days! 🙂

I find the dark gloomy days and the long evenings really hard to adjust to. I seem to shut down once it gets dark and can’t be bothered to do anything.

It may be grey and gloomy but you still delight us with lovely pictures Vivienne.
The sneak peek of a Christmas bunny 🙂 and oh, that cake looks good. Now I am reminded that I meant to try your recipe. I will – tomorrow!
It was pouring with rain here today and around 13.5C Not much better than where you are.
I actually enjoyed going out in the rain this afternoon but I would not like to make a permanent thing of it!

The cutest bunny, Vivienne, just lovely! She brightens up even the grayest day, and that cake should take care of the rest!

I hope, that the other colors will come to you very soon! You are so very attentive for all around you. It is to admire! And even though I’m new here, i have one question: how much is one carton of yogurt what you take for the recipe of cake? I will be much obliged for your answer. :o)

My dear little Holly is taking shape so beautifully Vivienne, I’m squealing with delight here. I hope your day is less grey today….it’s gorgeous blue sky and sunshine here this morning…but quite chilly. Just heading out to my studio to make some cards and yes.. we made it last night…by the skin of our teeth!! Keep snug,
Jane x

Hi Vivienne. I’m not a lover of these cold, damp, dark days either. It just makes me want to stay in bed with a good book (and maybe a box of something chocolatey too).
Your Christmas Bunny is looking lovely and you’ve managed to find the perfect button yet again.
I’m in a bit of a cat dilemma at the moment. Because the weather’s getting worse, I’m considering whether to adopt Pusskins and try and give him a home. Though I know nothing about cats. He spent all day here yesterday, and I felt bad kicking him out into the cold night when we went to bed.
Jill xx
PS – I’m getting lots of lovely compliments about my Red brooch. It’s vibrant colour on these grey days is keeping a smile on my face.
Happy Thursday. x

The little red cardi certainly brings cheer to a grey November day! Nice to see the bulbs pushing up through the soil – a reminder that Spring is sure to follow. x

Daffodils shouldn’t be up yet should they? I’m just about to plant some. Love the bunny’s little red cardigan.

For once it sounds as if we’ve fared better than you weather wise … we’ve enjoyed mostly blue skies here in the last few days. Sadly though life has been so hectic I’ve only been able to get out with the dogs in the dusk or after dark and no doubt by the weekend when I will have time for a daytime walk the grey will have moved across the Irish Channel !

I hope you’ve found plenty more things to cheer you x

Stephanie November 8, 2012 - 5:53 pm

Oh Vivienne, take heart! According to the Green Rabbit calender spring starts in less than eight weeks. Just knit, crochet, and bake your way through the next few weeks and you will see spring looming on the horizon.

Everything looks so lovely and cosy in your little world.

ps I’m sorry to rub it in but we’ve had brilliant blue skies for most of the week 🙂

Jenny November 8, 2012 - 6:01 pm

Oh I love the little cardigan and the holly buttons too, they are so sweet! Grey and miserable here as well though when I go on my post office run at five each day it’s practically dark so I can’t really see what the sky is doing 😀 have a lovely cosy weekend of baking and crochet, spring will soon be here! x

So pleased you managed to truffle out some colour. We’ve had some glorious weather here lately, loads of gold and red still on those trees that haven’t been stripped. I do love your latest bunny’s outfit. Yummy cake x

Anne November 9, 2012 - 1:02 pm

Very grey here, too. Please enjoy your cake and new daffodil greenery.
I felt a little better after I saw Mia’s snowy photos.
Can’t wait to see the next bunny……..

Happy weekend,

Hi Vivienne, if the months were colours you’ve summed it up, I found October to be Orange but I have to agree that November is a miserable shade of Grey! I’m counting those days away to the Solstice.
Bunny is looking pretty. x
