Horse Riding

by greenrabbitdesigns

Yesterday we went horse riding, when I say we I mean my daughter went riding, her dad and I watched. It’s a few years since she has been, she started riding at 14 years old and continued doing so every week until the age of 16 when ‘A’ levels got in the way and there just wasn’t enough hours in the week to fit everything in. Riding then had to take a back seat but she always said she would go back to it one day and seven years later, yesterday was that day.
We had kept all the horse riding gear carefully packed away and she was delighted that it all still fitted!
Going to the riding lessons was always a pleasure for me, although I don’t ride myself I loved being around these beautiful animals and it was great to be back.

Happily it all came back to her and she was so pleased that she could still do it, I think it’s one of those things that you never forget. She spent some of the lesson in the arena practising her rising trot and cantering and generally getting used to getting back in the saddle. Then they all went out down a little country lane for a hack. Something so nice about watching people on horseback in the countryside.

This is the very beautiful and gentle Belle who was Lyndsey’s friend for the day!

And this is Tilly, who was Lyndsey’s pony when she was riding here 7 years ago. We asked if she was still at the riding school and they brought us to where she was stabled. At the moment this photo was taken she was pawing the ground because she knew I had a packet of polo mints in my pocket, happily this gorgeous girl hasn’t changed a bit. Needless to say she had half a packet of mints before I left her!

We all really enjoyed ourselves, such a lovely way to spend some time and guess what we’re all going back again next weekend! 🙂

I bet your daughter was in heaven. One of my daughters took lessons and absolutely loved it. She got as far as jumping and a few shows. One day I decide to join her for a few lessons and I was terrible and pretty much a joke for the whole family. Looks like you all have a great time and those horses are beautiful and Large!! I think it was the size that scared me! Thank you for visiting me and have a great week. xoRobin❤

It looks great fun and I’m more than a bit jealous. We have a riding school pretty much next door and often walk through it, I’d love to have a go but had a pony when I was very young and she was a bit of a monster (not her fault, she simply realised she could scare me witless!) so I’m not a happy girl on horseback. Maybe one day I’ll have another go. Bethx

How lovely for your daughter to get back to her riding Vivienne and that you can go with her to watch. They are lovely creatures but seem to sense I am a bit nervous of them and try to kick me. I did ride when I was younger but not so sure I would return..I like terra firma!

What beautiful animals. I’ve only ever been horseback riding a few times. I just remember not being able to walk very well the next few days!

(No apology necessary, sweetie!)

This looks like such a fun day! Horse riding is such a great way to relax and truly is a fantastic workout. What beautiful horses and cheers to you daughter for going back to it.

Hi Vivienne, I just loved your post, it brought back memories. When I was young my 2 friends had horses but I wasn’t so lucky – so when I was married and had my young children it was my desire to live on a few acres so we did. We got a pony for our daughter and then a quarter horse for me then an Arab for her – great memories.

Hugs from Oregon, USA — Teresa 🙂

Those horses are just beautiful, sounds like a lovely day out. I did a little riding when I was younger but wasn’t confident enough really so gave up when we moved house again… bet your daughter had such a lovely time though, it does look like a lot of fun! x

Just what I would do, Viv, watch and enjoy while someone ELSE rides. I have had my horse-girl stage around 25something years ago but…I think horses look gorgeous and I admire those who can ride.

It seems that you really had great time, happy and sunny rest of the week!

Yours,
Mia

I´d love to ride a horse someday, I´ve only done it once – can you imagine? I think I was a bit scared of them when being a child, the horses were so enormous! Now however, I find them so beautiful but haven´t gotten around to it.

Looks like a great time! 🙂

Sorry Vivienne, I got distracted there by my husband offering a cuppa! I meant to add that you clearly had a wonderful day on Sunday, lucky you with those lovely gifts xx
