Late Summer Garden

by greenrabbitdesigns

Well as much as it pains me to say it, I have to admit that unfortunately summer is coming to an end. I think we can probably squeeze another two or three weeks out of it but not much more. I really don’t mind autumn it’s just I prefer spring and summer. I do love autumn colours though, they are in fact some of my favourite colours but I really don’t like the fact that the days are getting shorter.

The garden is still in full bloom, my sunflowers although not as many and certainly not as tall as other years are still beautiful and my absolute favourite flower.

It never ceases to amaze me how such a giant flower can come from such a small seed!

The insects are still very busy in the garden, trying to get as much done before the end of summer!

I hope you don’t mind seeing so much cosmos on my blog, it must be every other post. It’s just that my garden is full of them and I do love them!

The Black-Eyed Susan is looking good at the moment too and really is sunshine on a rainy day!

There is a lot of bright yellow and gold in the garden at this time of year, it’s as if the flowers have to try harder as the season comes to an end.

Of course this is harvest time too and I was delighted to see how many potatoes I got from one small bag. It was like looking for buried treasure. They taste delicious too and I will definitely grow them again next year and in greater quantities.

I also have had a good crop of tomatoes this year too, nothing quite like the taste of a home grown tomato.

It’s not just me though who has been enjoying the late summer garden, my new little cat friends have been making the most of it too!

R.J. really knows how to pose for a photo! Isn’t he gorgeous, he knows it though! 🙂

Polly is just the sweetest little thing and definitely the most friendly of the three.

And little Lily, who can’t quite bring herself to trust us yet but we are making progress.

So it may be nearing the end of summer but there still is much to enjoy in the garden!

There is much to enjoy this weekend too as it’s my husband’s birthday tomorrow and we have a bank holiday on Monday so it’s a three day weekend! I hope you all have a lovely weekend too and as always thanks for dropping in to see me. 🙂

Lovely lovely photos. I especially like the wrought iron chair with kitty. Yes I fear you are right about summer’s end fast approaching but I have to admit I wouldn’t want to live anywhere where the sun shone all the time and the days were the same length all year round would you? We are so lucky to have such unpredictable weather and the shorter days have a charm all of their own too as it means we get an evening now rather than gardening till bedtime! Have a wonderful weekend whatever the weather.

Never apologise for sunflowers and cosmos … how much less cheerful the world would be without them!
Those kitties are so cute, but how do you tell Polly and Lily apart?

So Pretty! I Love late summer, when it’s just barely starting to show signs of cooling off, but the flowers are still going strong. Your photography is exceptional. Thank you for sharing!

Those kitties are doing so well Vivienne. I do agree summer does seem to be coming to an end, the trees really are beginning to look very autumnal but the flowers are certainly holding on.Your veg and flowers look fab! Have a great bank holiday weekend and happy birthday to your husband,

It’s always a little sad to say goodbye to summer, but just think, we get to do it all again next year.

Your homegrown garden produce looks particulalry yummy.

Hi there, loved the flowers .. and the sad sentiments of the summer ending.. I don’t mind autumn.. but winter… cold, wind and rain.. argh. But I guess into each life some rain must fall.

Dear Viv,

We all know you’re a true summer-girl, and darker and shorter days sadden you. But your garden with its flowers and those tomatoes and such is so gorgeous that it must comfort you a little? And NOT to mention those beautiful kittens; are you absolutely sure RJ is not for me to adopt???

Have a wonderful and sunny long weekend, we’re celebrating a birthday here (someone turned three already!)!

Yours,
Mia

Vivienne, it looks lovely in your garden still, lots of nice things to eat, the potatoes look fab and the cat family are all looking content.
I feel like we haven’t had much summer but like you I’m hopeful for a couple more pleasant weeks if we are lucky, but isn’t it drawing in on a night.
Have a nice long weekend x

Noooo, I don´t mind at all – I love these pics with the gorgeous flowers and beautiful cats! 🙂

The shorter nights are so hard on those of us who like to be out in our gardens, but we’ll get through it. All that late colour will help. I’m going to get into the garden today and tidy up one of the beds with the most late flowers – need to clear away earlier foliage to see them better.
And there’s always the beautiful tulip bulbs to start planting.
Have a great birthday/Bank holiday weekend!
