Lazy Summer Days

by greenrabbitdesigns

At last!!! We have had a run of beautiful summer days with warm sunshine. I’ve now remembered what summer is supposed to be like!!

I’ve been enjoying my garden and my garden has been enjoying some welcome sunshine instead of wind and rain.

We are starting to enjoy some of our vegetable harvest but it is very poor this year. The beetroot was very disappointing and the tomatoes are only beginning to ripen although there are lots of them, fingers crossed for lots more sun to bring them on. The strawberries are just beginning to ripen and I have no raspberries or blackcurrants to speak off. Spinach, peas and courgettes have been good. I’m blaming the dreadful weather in June and July and have been thinking that if this is how our summers are going to be, maybe turning my raised bed into a cutting patch is the way to go next year. I suppose I could grow a few veg in between the flowers. Something to think about during the long dark days.

Now my post title had the word ‘Lazy’ in it, here’s why………………………………..

Hi Vivienne, glad you’re having some lovely weather at last! All is looking very pretty and productive in your garden, your peas look so good! It’s been a funny year for veg, and like you our courgettes have been good, as have the runners and climbing beans but that’s about it – still waiting for my tomatoes to ripen too.
Cats sure know how to chill dont they? Great photos.
Hope you enjoy the weather and your garden.

Glad you are enjoying some summery weather at last. It’s frightening that nobody’s veggies and fruit have done well this year as presumably farmers will have found the same and fresh food will be expensive this winter. However those cats have the right idea and they don’t think about the future but just enjoy the Now!

Lovely garden! Hopefully next year will be better on everyone’s plants. I love the idea of a cutting garden within the veggies – one of the best parts about summer is all the freshness of the garden. Hope the weather continues to be sunny for you.

What lovely flowers Vivienne and it’s so good to eat home produce isn’t it. My Billy would feel very at home in your lovely garden…your adopted felines are very lucky indeed. Lily really does look like Blackie doesn’t she! Enjoy your evening and I hope the sun keeps shining your way.

Beautiful pictures! We had no currants to speak of either and as we have discussed before it has been such a patchy year for us too. But you always have good and bad years when you grow your own food, dont you – next year has to be better!

I wish I was a cat! They are soooooo laid back! I am glad you are getting the sunshine you wanted. Your fruit , flowers and veg look wonderful. Years ago I had loads of green unripe tomatoes and I made pickled green tomatoes with them! This year all my tomato plants died due to lack of care. I think next year I will only be growing herbs! x

Hi Vivienne, What lovely flowers and vegetables! It is so nice to see all these flowers because I am fearing the turn of seasons here ALL to soon. Love the kitties, yes it’s a tough life!!! Enjoy the rest of your week too.

Oh look at those lazy kitties! I have taken a similar shot of my gray Shadow stretched out on the doorstep – just living so dangerously – and waiting to be tripped over! Your flowers are so pretty! Sorry your harvest has not been so great this year. I wish I could send you some of our beets! However, we hardly had any berries this summer either and the elderberries have dried out before actually getting big…the birds are picking at them….oh well! xo K

You can’t blame those kitties for lazing like that, I imagine they were as sick of the rain as we all were.
Glad that you have some colour in the garden, my father was moaning about his runner beans being a poor show at the weekend.

Lovely photo’s from your garden. I am envious of your vegetable crop 😉 It looks really good. I am afraid I will only have red peppers, garlic and cucumbers this year.

Have a lovely evening.

Lovely pictures from your garden, Vivienne! I do love to see the blue sky and sunshine captured with all those pretty flowers and veggies too. You have grown lots despite the strange weather this summer. We have just grown green beans which always seem to do well and we are enjoying them now……the rest of our veggie plot is now my cutting patch and has been much easier to cultivate! And how nice to be a lazy cat in the sunshine, they do know how to really enjoy relaxing don’t they?
Have a happy rest of the week.

Dear, LOVELY Vivienne,

We returned from our holiday two days ago and Héloïse was absolutely THRILLED and touched to find your beautiful gift! That daughter of mine was grinning from ear to ear. Thank you so much for your generosity and kindness. It is a joy to visit your blog again and feast my eyes on those summer garden pictures.

Warmest wishes to you Vivienne and enjoy your summer!

ps Héloïse is preparing a thank you card for you. Sssssh 🙂

Beautiful picture show! Your garden is a riot of gorgeous blooms.
Mmmm pea pods. How I love them. They never make it to the pan in my house!

Patty August 27, 2012 - 12:13 pm

The garden looks lovely but I know what you mean about the lateness of tomatoes and such. Not that I’m growing this year but other peoples I come across are very delayed or stunted.
The blue sea holly is one of my favourite plants, used to love growing it when I had my own garden.
Hey it’s lovely to catch up with the cats making the most of what summer we have. x

Just look at all that wonderful splash of colour. Your garden must look beautiful. The cats seem to love it. xx
