Home animals Pre~Spring

by greenrabbitdesigns

Welcome to pre-spring!!!

Anyone who is a regular visitor here will know that according to the Green Rabbit calendar we are now in pre-spring!

If you’re new here the Green Rabbit calendar is as follows ~

Pre-Spring ~ January and February
Spring ~ March, April and May
Summer ~ June, July, August and September
Autumn ~ October and November
Winter ~ December

I’m sure you’ll agree this is a much better calendar than the normal one, one month of winter is really enough for anyone.

The first photo was taken on the first day of the year and just look at the sky, the weather has been extremely mild and there are lots of signs that spring is on the way.

Bulbs are pushing their way through the soil all over my garden!

In fact I’m only beginning to realise how many bulbs I planted last autumn!!!

The little primroses that I kept in the greenhouse since last spring are now beginning to bloom.

The trees too are beginning to come to life again with lots of little buds forming, it really seems no time since they dropped their leaves, I much prefer this time of year though when it’s all beginning to happen again.

So with images like these how can you not agree that we are edging closer to springtime. I know a lot of people don’t like January but I love the fact that we can see spring and summer on the horizon.

Of course no time in the garden happens without at least one assistant (usually more), today’s helper was the beautiful Lily!

I hope you all manage to get out outside this weekend to look for the signs of spring and embrace this hopeful time of year!!!

Happy weekend! 🙂

I am just off to bed (holidays still in mind, not possible to get sleep before midnight!), but I just got to comment as soon as I saw this post: This is my FAVORITE CALENDAR in whole wide world! Just look at it: who wouldn’t love ONEmonth winter and the idea of pre-spring being here NOW!?! I apologize the excessive bolding 😉 in this comment but it’s just so hopeful and so are your pictures too, buds and the blue sky… Thank you so much for sharing this, Vivienne, and happy first weekend of 2013 soon!

Hello Vivienne! I was pretty amazed to see trees decked with catkins this week. Already? I thought. I often smile and think of your calendar! I think one of my favourite months is February. My son was born just after Valentine’s Day and it’s a month full of symbols. It’s also a short month and marks the very beginning of spring. In some ways it is almost better to travel in hope than to arrive and I do believe that once spring does arrive it all goes so fast, don’t you think? Monty Don’s wife’s birthday is on the same day as Tristan’s and they both see it as the beginning of spring too so we are in very good company!

Lovely blue sky and plenty of signs of Spring in your garden Vivienne.
I wish some nice sunshine for you this weekend.

Yay Vivienne, bring it on! As a fellow pre-spring believer, I read of your new post in my in tray with great joy and just had to come straight over!
I have been out walking daily this pre-spring, eagerly looking for tell tale signs in the hedgerows and fields, and can confirm that you are indeed right, pre-spring is offically here – today it was warm, the sky was blue, we took off our coats, primroses are flowering, bulbs are emerging and the birds were singing – and they should know!
And if that werent enough, I felt compelled today to remove the ice background on my blog and replace it with daisies – oh yes, pre-spring is here in my heart too!!!
Wishing you a happy pre-spring weekend Vivienne, and thank you so much for reminding us!
Gill xx

Lovely pre-spring photos. There’ll be snow outside my windows for quite a while!! IT’s good to know things look much better there.

Happy Weekend, Vivienne.

How exciting that we are in pre Spring Vivienne and the bulbs are pushing up everywhere. I am glad that you have had the best cat company in the garden too. Happy weekend my friend,

I love the idea of pre spring. So much more positive than having yet more winter! Today has been definitely pre spring like. Quite warm for early January.

Now I know you think I’m mad, but I quite enjoy winter, or rather I do when it’s not so wet. I’m actually craving frost and snow, but sincerely hope you don’t get a really cold snap that wipes out all that new growth.

I guess neither of us would object to a bit more sunshine just now!

Wonderful blue sky shot Vivienne – wouldn’t it be nice to see a bit more of that? Pre-spring is a rather lovely idea for a season and it’s good to see signs of it from your garden x

Hi Vivienne, oh I say I’m a bit envious of your early bulbs because I’ve seen nothing to confirm new growth here, maybe I’m not looking hard enough! I take pleasure in seeing your spring plants sprouting away. Have a good week. S x

Emma January 9, 2013 - 8:06 pm

Vivienne, your calendar is genius. I much prefer it to the standard version. Happy happy New Year to you.
