Rain !!! 🙁
Who said it could rain, not me anyway!

Great big drops of the stuff and I still have so much to do outside before we go on holidays and rain didn’t figure in the plan.

Now I know the garden needs some rain but I’m happy to water it myself.
Although the smell of the dry earth with rain is lovely, I do love that smell.

On a more serious note though, it really is needed. Not only are the gardens bone dry but farmers are crying out for some rain for their crops too.

After a very dry April, reservoirs are low and we have a very big problem here with gorse fires in the mountains. The vegetation is very dry and whether the fires start naturally or are started by idiots there are homes, livelihoods, farm animals and wildlife at risk ! So hopefully the rain will help deal with that particular problem.

Just as long as it remembers to stop and doesn’t keep going all summer, as it has been known to do.

It actually looks a little brighter as I type, maybe I’ll get a chance to get outside afterall but I think it might be only for a short time as the weather forecast said it’s going to get heavier in the evening.

Oh well I’ll go out and see what I can get done.
Happy Thursday everyone and hope your weather is what you want it to be!
Thanks as always for dropping in, it’s lovely to have you visit. 🙂

I love that smell too, I think it has to be my favourite smell. You are right, the farmers do need the rain, and we have been extremely lucky so far this year, so we can’t complain. Having said that… we are off to the Lake District tomorrow, so would prefer it not to rain too much! Have a lovely holiday, Rosy x

We’re still waiting for some Vivienne, the ground is SO dry here. This sunshine has been wonderful but as you said not good for the crops. Have a wonderful break, see you soon,

Rainy nights and sunny days seem to be my idea of the perfect combination!

We’re still waiting for some here too. That is one of the best smells isn’t it – that damp smell of rain after a long dry spell.

Hi Vivienne, we are also still waiting for rain, it was forecast for the weekend but has already been downgraded to a possible shower so I’m not hopeful. Your photos are lovely 🙂 Here’s to the perfect combination of rain at night and sunshine in the day. Bethx

We have had rain here in the states for the past couple of weeks. Crossing fingers that the rain goes away for both of us to do our gardening.

Jenny May 5, 2011 - 8:21 pm

We haven’t had any rain for weeks and weeks but it is England after all, so I’m sure it won’t be far away! Hope you get everything done before you go away xx

Ruth May 5, 2011 - 8:50 pm

Yes, I too would like some rain – not only to refill my water butts which ran on empty some weeks back but there has been a very nasty and severe forest fire not too far away from where I live that has been raging since Monday. Firemen reckon it was a Bank Holiday accident but it’s caused some terrible damage.

We had one glorious May Day sunshine filled and happy. Now the rain is back and I’m a bit perturbed. Who do I call to register a complaint?

tinajo May 6, 2011 - 7:38 am

I love these pics though, so that´s at least one good thing with the rain..! 😀

Here in Sweden we suddenly got very cold weather a couple of days ago. After weeks with warmth – both on our vacations and home – I was in shock (and so were my kids I think). I think it will turn around now though, fingers crossed! 🙂

Have a great day! 🙂

Yes we need the rain too. I was out in the garden on Wednesday and had to give up with the fork – ground too hard! It can rain at night while we sleep and then we all wake refreshed, garden and us!

I can’t remember the last time we had rain.

Have a lovely weekend,

I adore that post-rain smell too – I’ve really enjoyed the showers in the last few days. Hope you get everything done before you go away! Have a lovely holiday!
