Home bears summer days

It is extremely hard to believe that we are half way through August, I am convinced that a week is much shorter now than it used to be!!

It is also extremely hard to believe that despite the title of this post that it is actually summer, certainly up here in the northern parts of the UK there has been a distinct lack of sunshine.

The garden has suffered as a result of the poor weather, my tomatoes are plentiful but still green and the rain has only encouraged more slugs and snails who have helped themselves to quite a lot of things including all my courgettes!

This is my first sweet pea and it only bloomed last week and I’m still waiting on my pink cosmos!!

Despite the weather we have still tried to get out and about and we enjoyed a lovely trip to the seaside to watch an air display.

Making so far this month has included a crocheted blanket for a new baby girl…..

…..and the beginnings of a new cardi for my little princess.

Bay Collage

My animals this month include Bay the little blue bear, who is a seaside, sailing sort of girl.

A little red and white check girl called Gingham.

Eglantina Collage

Eglantina whose name means ‘wild rose’.

And finally Thistle!

All four of these girls will be listed in my Etsy shop on Monday 15th August at 9pm (BST).

More information about them can be found here.

Despite the weather you have had a wonderful show of flowers Vivienne! You know I would swap our weather for yours any day! This summer has certainly been flying by and it saddens me because it is another year that I haven’t been to the beach or done anything with my family. My husband is a teacher and spends most of his ‘holiday time’ marking or leaning a new computer language!!! I love all the new bunnies and things you have been making for Amelie. I bet she is a big part of each day! x

Bunnies so beautiful I love them all. The colours of the bunnies are as bright as the flowers . I know you get the inspiration from nature. The baby blanket you crocheted is beautiful your daughter must be very proud of you Vivienne, did you teach her to crochet too? Love&Blessings. Elizabeth

Beautiful little creatures – they are all so lovely. We’ve had lots of rain and slugs eating plants but now so very very hot the flowers are wilting. your photos are gorgeous. x

Use all those green tomatoes for green tomato chutney which is delicious! Jamie Oliver sports a good one on his page. Love your bunnies, flowers and blog!

Dear Vivienne,

I believe we are having the same weather, although the last three days have been lovely in The Netherlands. Hope we will have a lovely ‘late summer’ and autumn. Those sunny days simply have to come!!!

Hello Vivienne,

What a lovely post again! You certainly managed to “hide” 😉 the fact that summer hasn’t been all sundhine&beautiful days! Your posts are always so full of bloom&sunshine, love it. We definitely are on our way to autumn, but weather is still warm and days pretty long – all good. Your girls are adorable, love Bay especially this time. And no apologies needed: I for one love seeing them more than once! And your newsletter is fab!

Have a wonderful weekend, hope it’ll be a sunny one!

It’s a bit hard on us when we wait for plants to bloom and they don’t! My cosmos has flowered, but very poorly. Not happy at all. But your flowers do look gorgeous and the whole post shouts Summer! Love the baby blanket. Can never have too many of those xx

Its been a funny year for the garden with little sunshine in the early months of spring and summer, and too much rain! You still have lots of flowers though! I too lost all my courgettes to those destructive slugs and snails but managed some slug free cucumbers! I’ve only been picking my tomatoes for a couple of weeks, and hopefully the first runner beans today, everything is so late.I’m sure yours will start to ripen soon and then they’ll be away. Love all your sweet girls, always so pretty and individual.
Enjoy the rest of the summer Vivienne, hope those tomatoes ripen!
