This beautiful flower surprised me this week, I’m not sure when I put the bulb in or if it was supposed to be this colour but I wasn’t expecting it anyway.
The border that it is growing in is one that I have been working on for a couple of years, I want it to be a cottage garden type of bed and gradually it’s getting there. I tend to put bulbs, plants and seedlings in every so often to try and create the image I have in my head but as some of them don’t actually do anything until the following year, I forget what I have planted. This gorgeous lily is one of those plants! A very pleasant surprise.
It even looks good after a shower of rain!!
I then went in search for some cotton yarn in the same beautiful colour of the lily. It’s not just plants that I forget about, I also forget what yarn I have in my stash!! I found this lovely burgundy cotton and along with some pale pink cotton, a vintage button and some little faux pearls I came up with this brooch.
I have added it to my Etsy shop where I also have a summer sale on at the moment. Just enter SUMMER12 at the checkout for 10% off until the end of July. I have also reduced some of the brooches in my shop, so there will be an extra 10% off on top of that.
Enjoy the rest of the week and thanks as always for dropping in to visit me here.
Fingers crossed that the Jet Stream gets on the move quickly so that summer can return!

What a gorgeous floral surprise! And what a beautiful colour that yarn is. I’ve started keeping an inventory of all my yarns as well as using Ravelry’s stash facility, but I still don’t have everything listed. I’m running out of places to hide, um I mean store, the stuff 😉
Oops I think I managed to leave my comment on your photo Vivienne! That will teach me not to use my phone! I said how wonderful to find your lily and what lovely inspiration for your corsage. Bed for me now before I make any more errors! Summer is promised by the weekend….;0)

what a treat tht lily is Vivienne. I do like the idea of planting bulbs and then forgetting about them – it makes for exciting gardening and lovely surprises just like this one. Lovely corsage – the colours are beautiful.
Gorgeous inspiration!
Love that scarlet color! I wish my bulbs would bloom – I have a couple I planted last year that haven’t sprung up yet.
Don’t you just love it when you get a surprise like that? We had an amarylis which just appeared in our garden once – how could that happen I wonder! This morning is looking as if maybe the Jet Stream is moving north as the sun is out and the skies are blue – yipee!
what a fabulous colour and an unexpected treat!
love love love your brooch…the pearls are so pretty
love jooles x
What a pretty flash of colour, and such a delight to look at on such dreary, wet days. The blue skies haven’t put in an appearance here today, but sadly no rain either, which meant I didn’t get to christen my new wellies :0) xx
Don’t you just love it when that happens, a surprise flower, it’s very luscious. That’s such a pretty burgundy for the flower brooch. Looks like a nice weather weekend, yippeee! Have fun x
Hola Vivienne. Es un broche muy elegante¡¡¡¡¡
besos
That is one gorgeous flower, Vivienne, I love that deep rich shade of burgundy! And your lily-brooch is so pretty too, those little pearls are just perfect next to that button.
Happy week, dear friend!
Yours,
Mia
What a beautiful flower brooch, Vivienne. Isn’t it satisfying when you find all the materials required to make just the creative project you have in mind? Gardens certainly inspire you to make very pretty creations, Vivienne.
I am glad that finding the lily gave you the inspiration to make such a lovely brooch. Guess what? I have been to shop in pursuit of a little bunny…………..! x

Both the lily and the brooch are beautiful. I love the shape of the petals in the brooch.
Hope you’re seeing some sun this week.
